A trip to southern Israeli cities was made with HHCoalition members and a special delegate, Countess Esther de Pommery from Switzerland. Together with them was a head of the "Israel to the Nations" project, Hagai Shtern, who had coordinated the activities. The purpose of the trip was to visit the populations in need around Israel, particularly the children living under the poverty line. The HHCoalition and "Israel to the Nations" have been working in partnership for some time now.
Countess Esther brought with her to Israel, boxes of brand new and very valuable toys from Europe. Some of the toys that she brought were worth hundreds of dollars. These toys were distributed to children in need in Ashdod, Ethiopian children in need in Sderot, children in need in Nitzanim (a city where the Jewish citizens of Gaza had been relocated to during the disengagement) and many other children in other cities. Countess Esther calls this toy distribution: "The toys for peace".
In addition, hundreds of special blankets provided by sponsors of the HHCoalition were also distributed during this day to the Ethiopean community of Sderot as well as to Holocaust survivors, other elderly and children.
One of the meetings that took place during this day's agenda was with the mayor of Sderot. The mayor explained the situation in Sderot during the recent conflicting battles in Gaza. During his explanations, the mayor made a very interesting remark regarding to world wide understanding of the situation in Sderot and a point that the media neglects to remind its viewers around the globe. He sees it important to remember that over the past eight years, tens of Israelis have died from the thousands of missiles launched by the Hamas in Gaza (two of which were very young Ethiopian children playing outside their home when a missile hit them and killed them). The Hamas's intentions, however, were and remain to kill at least one Israeli civilian with each missile that they launch. Sderot is very blessed to have been spared many times from these missiles, as it's civilians constantly run for cover in local shelters and hide, but the fact remains that the Hamas's intentions are to hit and kill at least one person with each missile launched. The mayor also added that there are days when numerous launches were made.
The day concluded in Nitzanim, where the delegates from the HHCoalition and "Israel to the Nations" met with the Jewish civilians who were forced out of their homes in Gaza during the disengagement. Since their eviction, they live in difficult situations, in poverty and in far lower standards that they were living in before, in Gaza. The delegates spoke with these civilians, heard of their needs and are now working together to meet those needs.
