Visiting Sderot & Ofakim under fire during the War in Gaza

A team of people from the HHCoalition was sent to the southern Israeli cities bordering the Gaza strip that were being attacked at the time by missiles from the Hamas in Gaza during the battling conflict. A convoy of 4 cars/vans was loaded with food, water and toys. These items were gathered and donated by people and organizations (Joseph Project, Dugit, GAiN, and others) from all over Israel and from abroad.

Once arriving in Ofakim, the team visited a bomb shelter. Over a hundred children stayed and were accommodated at this bomb shelter as schools were out due to constant missiles from Gaza. Their parents had to go to work and to make sure that the children were safe, they stayed in the bomb shelters. Food (including chocolates, sweets and etc.) and toys were given out to the children. The children were very excited and extremely happy to receive these boxes of toys. They ran towards the boxes of toys as if they were gold.

After this, another stop was made in Ofakim where IDF soldiers gather and coordinate activities for local children and youth during this time of crisis. Food, water and toys were donated there as well.

The team then moved on to Sderot, a city that has been hit by thousands of missiles for the past 8 years. As the team was driving through the city, cameras and journalists from TV networks from all around the world could be seen on the sidewalks and city center.

The first distribution was made at a local center, operated by local coordinators. During the unloading of the donations, missiles hitting the ground near by were heard all around the city. The second stop was at a local youth center. Then, shortly later, a stop was made to aid a group of over 40 Holocaust survivors who waited very eagerly to receive the water and food as they need it very much.

All of the people who received the visits and donations from the HHCoalition were very blessed. The items given out to them help them very much, but more than that, the fact that they know and see that someone cares for them, loves them and wants to help them in this great time of need and crisis, is something of invaluable significance and a tremendous blessing to them.
