New Activities in Or Akiva

By Maggie Gasiorowski

The Helping Hand Coalition has recently joined hands and collaborated with Or Akiva.
Or Akiva has a population of about 16,000 and as such is one of Israel's smallest cities in terms of population. It is situated right next to one of the HHC headquarters in Caesarea.
The majority of the population lives in poor conditions as the income of the families is generally very low. Over the past few years many initiations have been made mainly by sponsors from abroad to help the city’s citizens by enhancing the educational system, by sponsoring trips abroad for many children-youth in order for them to experience the different cultures, by creating cultural centers in the city and many more activities.

There are about 260 Holocaust survivors living in Or Akiva. This figure includes veterons of the Second World War and Ghetto survivors. The HHC has spoken with the mayor of Or Akiva and has received his blessing as well as his help in giving aid to these 260 survivors as they are in need.
